Advanced Contamination Control for Optimal Equipment Performance

The ultimate 2-in-1 accessory, the Bowl serves as both a sight glass and BS&W bowl. Made of impact-resistant Tritan™, the Bowl is stronger than other drain port sight glasses, crystal clear and chemically resistant.

The distinctive contour design allows for immediate visual inspection of the oil, along with early detection of potential contamination problems such as water and sediment.

Providing a visual indication of wear debris while the machine is running, the Bowl's rare earth magnetic drain plug also protects machinery by attracting and drawing wear particles to the bottom, proactively preventing machine failure and enabling a thorough drain of contaminants.

Your Window to fluid integrity.

  • Check and remove any debris from inside the Bowl.
  • Remove protective red cap from the magnet on the Drain Valve.
  • Apply thread sealer to all threads before installation. Do not use Teflon tape.
  • Use a 2-1/8" wrench to tighten the adapter into your drain port.
  • Use a 9/16" wrench to tighten the Drain Valve into the Bowl.
  • Do not use the plastic hex to tighten the Bowl into the drain port.
  • Do not overtighten once the hex bottoms out.
  • Check the Bowl daily to ensure there is no water or contamination in your machine.
  • Do not sample from the Bowl. The oil inside is not a good representation of the oil that is actively making contact with your gears.
  • When purging, hold the drain open until the Bowl has completely refilled with clean oil.
  • Close the drain valve.
  • For use on drain level ports only.
  • Do not use on machines with oil temperatures outside the range of -20°F (-29°C) to 200°F (94°C).
  • Do not use on machines with ambient temperatures outside the range of -20°F (-29°C) to 200°F (94°C).
  • For use with mineral and synthetic oils compatible with Tritan, Viton, zinc-plated steel.
  • Do not use on systems exceeding 65 psi (4.48 bars)
  • Do not use on moving vehicles.
  • Do not use on moving machine surfaces (e.g. reciprocating, oscillating, or rotating) or machines exposed to shock or fluid surge condition.
  • Do not use cleaning solvents incompatible with fluorocarbon elastomers (Viton) an acrylic plastic (PMMA).
  • Install the Bowl on machine port locations that are a safe distance from moving machine parts, vehicles, and foot traffic.
  • Do not use cleaning solvents incompatible with fluorocarbon elastomers (Viton) Tritan, brass, and zinc-plated steel.
  • Do not use Teflon tape on Tritan threads. Only use thread-sealing paste or dope compatible with plastic threads when sealing Tritan threads.
  • Do not over torque the Bowl or any of its components.
  • Luneta LLC is not responsible for damages associated with incorrectly installing the Bowl or for improper use as outlined in this manual and on the website, Luneta.com

Shielded Design

The shielded design prevents dirt and debris from building up on the drain port.

This allows for the drain to be accessed without the need to clear away build-up like dust or paper pulp.
1

Thread Reducer

The Luneta Thread Reducer allows the Bowl to be installed on most standard ports.

There is no need to modify your equipment directly to implement our products.
3

Eyelets

Featured in all Luneta Sight Glasses, built-in eyelets make for easy tagging.

We suggest attaching checklists or MSDS sheets for quick reference.

4

Rare Earth Magnet

This powerful neodymium magnet attracts ferrous debris for inspection and purging.

If there is debris on the magnet, there is debris in your machine.
5

Built-in drain

The built-in drain can be used to purge water and other sediment from your machine.

It features a spiral design that can be locked open for draining larger quantities of fluid from your machine.
6

Tritan Sight Glass

Tritan is an incredible material, it simply does not crack or break under field conditions.

The Bowl features a contoured design that gives an undistorted view of your machine's lubrication system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add an additional bushing to make the threads female?

Yes. Additional bushings may be used to make the threading female if that better suits your needs.

What is the size of the valve used?

1/4" NPT threads. twist to lock, spiral, poppet valve

Can I sample from the bowl?

We do not recommend sampling from the bowl as it will naturally collect water and other contaminants. It does not paint an accurate picture of the condition of the oil that is actively contacting your gears.

Do the threads require Teflon tape?

Thread sealing tape NOT recommended as it may cause contamination. Luneta officially recommends the use of paste or dope to seal threads.
